Une dent d’hippopotame et plus de 50 kg d’écailles de pangolin, trophées d’espèces animales intégralement protégées ont été saisis entre les mains de quatre individus ce 27 mai à Dolisie, dans le Département du Niari. L’un des quatre serait également impliqué dans le trafic illégal des matières premières, car des flacons contenant des substances suspectes ont été trouvés entre ses mains et feront l’objet d’analyses plus poussées.
Les quatre individus ont été pris en flagrant délit de détention, circulation et tentative de commercialisation de ces produits protégés par la loi. L’interpellation de ces présumés délinquants fauniques a été réalisée par les éléments de la Section de Recherches Judiciaires, de l’Escadron Mobile de la Région de Gendarmerie du Niari et les agents de la Direction Départementale de l’Economie Forestière, appuyés techniquement par le PALF (Projet d’Appui à l’Application de la Loi sur la Faune Sauvage).
Il s’agirait d’un réseau dans lequel, certains seraient des fournisseurs et les autres des démarcheurs. Les quatre individus ont reconnu les faits qui leur sont reprochés, à savoir, la détention, circulation et tentative de commercialisation des trophées d’espèces animales intégralement protégées par la loi. Ces derniers vont répondre de leurs actes devant la justice congolaise. Ils risquent des peines allant jusqu’à cinq ans d’emprisonnement ferme ainsi qu’une amende allant jusqu’à 5 millions de FCFA chacun conformément à la loi.
Le commerce illégal des produits de faune conduit à l’extinction des espèces animales sauvages. Le Congo, qui s’est engagé à protéger ses espèces animales en voie d’extinction, reste vigilant et sanctionne tous ceux qui entravent la loi en matière de protection de la faune sauvage. Pour rappel, trois présumés trafiquants des pointes d’ivoire dont un agent des Eaux et Forêts ont été interpellés, le 21 septembre dernier à Dolisie, dans le Département du Niari. Ces derniers avaient été jugés et condamnés fermement par le Tribunal de Grande Instance de Dolisie.
L’article 27 de la loi Congolaise en matière de protection des espèces fauniques stipule : « l’importation ; l’exportation ; la détention et le transit sur le territoire national des espèces intégralement protégées ; ainsi que de leurs trophées sont strictement interdits ; sauf dérogation spéciale de l’administration des eaux et forêts ; pour les besoins de la recherche scientifique ».
